Greetings all, just a couple of notes leading up to the South Island Sporting Clay shoot at Greymouth next weekend. (November 26/27) We will be running 4 old style FITASC fields each day, so your assistance in starting promptly in the mornings would really be appreciated. To that end breakfast will be available on site both days from “earlyish!!” I’m told. It looks like we will have over 60 shooters attending which is excellent, but just remember the club has only 3 or 4 members so this is a huge undertaking for them and if you see any empty traps or some one needing a hand PLEASE help out. They are putting in a huge effort for you. The South Island Sporting Clay Shooters Club and in particular Graeme Brown and Target Products are also pitching in to help and we will be over on the Coast from Wednesday to set up. We will try to run a bit of practice late afternoon Friday if we are set up. There is NO EFTPOS at the club, so cash or cheque is the option.
There will be Falcon/Fiocchi ammunition for sale.
We have also booked out Ali’s restaurant from 6:30 Saturday evening for shooters. Ali is running a smorgasbord type dinner at $30 each, so there is no hurry or rush to eat, there will be plenty of food, and I guarantee you will know that you are on the Coast, not in Auckland with the bar prices!! (Licensed, not BYO) Ali’s is opposite Hunting &Fishing, top end of Tainui Street and beside the art gallery.
The club is out on the Taylorville Rd. which is out across the bridge to Cobden (North West of the town) turn right immediately after bridge at T intersection, then take 1st. right to Taylorville Rd carry on to Gun club, it’s posted and at the same site as go-kart and jet sprint courses.

We northerners are looking forward to this, please ensure that the weather is good!!
AH Sorry, it’s not looking too good, Long range weather Westerlies and rain/showers!!
I can guarantee that it won’t be raining in Ali’s on Saturday night except for shooters tears having been beaten on soft targets!!!
I’m reliably informed that “Rain showers” in Greymouth is equivilant to having a garden hose pouring over you non stop. Yippee, cant wait, just like shooting at Wanganui in September!!
Also, I predict that we northerners will probably start with 25/25′s and then there will be a spurt of activity by the locals stiffening all the targets up – as happened only just a few weeks ago!!
OK, Preparing polar survival suit for travel right now!
That is exactly right, but it is planned, as was the Compak. We must have learn’t from Wanganui. They have very few members and are hoping to encourage a few ‘locals’ along and I don’t think we should scare them away.
There will still be some good competitive targets on Saturday do not worry. We are thinking F1 and F3 will be a bit tougher and the one amongst the native bush will be great for newer shooters!
Do not worry to much about the weather, it’s not normally that cold; well as cold as Wanganui anyway.
Well after looking at the news last night and seeing the Grey river that high, how is the gun club holding up?
I gather it’s fine. It’s on higher ground with no river boundary. The best thing is that the ponds we are shooting over will fill up!
Graeme Brown, Steve Gill and I are heading over tomorrow to start setting up some devious targets, the long range forecast is looking pretty good for the weekend. YAY!!
We are going to try and set up a bit of practice on Friday arvo but would rather concentrate on the fields if we have ‘inclement’ weather on Thursday/Friday.
