Online entries are open for the 24th FITASC Championship of Oceania to be held at Waikato on 27th – 29th April 2012.

You can enter here or check out the Waikato CTC website.

The entry cutoff date for the Nationals has changed to 31st January. We want to draw the squads early to give the international shooters enough notice before traveling.

Also please note the organisors may change the format of the Nationals to Old style FITASC if the entry numbers stay below 130. This decision will be made before the entry cutoff and you will be notified when the squad list is sent out.

Packing everything to set off to Greymouth, I saw the news that showed the Grey river was 7 meters over normal, the pass was closed and flooding and slips were everywhere on the coast side. Oh fun. On arriving at the Greymouth early Wednesday afternoon expecting the worse I was pleasantly surprised that the weather out at the gun club wasn’t to bad if you ignore showers of rain, mud and water underfoot. In just two days 68 shooters were expecting four old style FITASC type fields to be set up and running so we had better get on with it. Graeme Brown, Steve Gill, Ron Madden from the S.I.S.C.S.C. had bought over 18 Pro Matic traps, along with locals Kimble Upfold, John Boyles and Brian Forrest rounded off the setting up crew.
The plan was to run 4 fields, one up on the local farm paddocks, one in the native bush and two fields around bush clad lakes. I think this worked pretty successfully, Saturday was set up a bit ‘softer’ being a trophy day with a few non competitive sorts and locals attending. Sunday was set with the knowledge that it was the South Island Sporting Clay Champs and places for North/South teams were up for grabs. There was plenty of variation on both days from tight close shots in the bush, curling and ducking targets, nothing was set level, and every target was curling one way or the other, to long crossers and going away rabbits on open ridges.
A special thanks must go to Jenny Forrest and Katrania Baylis who spent both days in the caravan cooking breakfast and beautiful gourmet burgers and toasties for lunch. The interesting fact there is Brian reckons Jenny would normally do anything to not be at the gun club, so it was a pretty special effort from the ladies. Also John Boyles, Kimble Upfold and Thomas McNutt who spent all weekend loading traps, lugging gear about and guiding shooters around the fields Just to keep the West Coast hospitality going a bit longer we had booked out a local restaurant for Saturday evening, and to those who availed themselves of it had, ham off the bone, whitebait patties and bar prices that only Auckland drinkers could ever dream of!
On Saturday a total of 68 shooter turned up for battle, something the organisers were well pleased with, which all is good for a return down the track, but don’t tell them yet!!
All in all an excellent weekend, and just to cap it off a great thank you speech from Mark Vessey saying the targets were of a standard, as good and as well thought out as any shoot anywhere in the world.

This year as well as the South Island Sporting Clay Shooters Club being established, the Te Anau CTC has reivented itself into a Sporting Clay Shooting Club.
There were members of that club competing at the recent South Zone shoot, and they were most interested in our club (S.I.S.C.S.C.) and how it operates with no set ground. They are in the same position. Sporting is very popular in the deep South and their shoots have been very well patronised to date.
If you are holidaying in the Southern Lakes region over Xmas, New Year sneak your shotgun into your luggage as they are holding a Sporting Shoot on Monday January 2nd. 2012. It is the Colin Sinclair Silver 100 to be held at 330 Lagoon Rd., registration from 0900, Food, Beverage and ammo is available, plus they are running a 3 person Team match (must be from same club) If you are interested contacts are: Eric King 021504825 or 03 249 4106 or Jodie Kendall 0273040274.
We will endevour to get their year programme, or post their shoots on our calendar as they come to hand.
It is good to see yet another Sporting Club start up, and just shows that Sporting is alive and increasing in the South Island.

Greetings all, just a couple of notes leading up to the South Island Sporting Clay shoot at Greymouth next weekend. (November 26/27) We will be running 4 old style FITASC fields each day, so your assistance in starting promptly in the mornings would really be appreciated. To that end breakfast will be available on site both days from “earlyish!!” I’m told. It looks like we will have over 60 shooters attending which is excellent, but just remember the club has only 3 or 4 members so this is a huge undertaking for them and if you see any empty traps or some one needing a hand PLEASE help out. They are putting in a huge effort for you. The South Island Sporting Clay Shooters Club and in particular Graeme Brown and Target Products are also pitching in to help and we will be over on the Coast from Wednesday to set up. We will try to run a bit of practice late afternoon Friday if we are set up. There is NO EFTPOS at the club, so cash or cheque is the option.
There will be Falcon/Fiocchi ammunition for sale.
We have also booked out Ali’s restaurant from 6:30 Saturday evening for shooters. Ali is running a smorgasbord type dinner at $30 each, so there is no hurry or rush to eat, there will be plenty of food, and I guarantee you will know that you are on the Coast, not in Auckland with the bar prices!! (Licensed, not BYO) Ali’s is opposite Hunting &Fishing, top end of Tainui Street and beside the art gallery.
The club is out on the Taylorville Rd. which is out across the bridge to Cobden (North West of the town) turn right immediately after bridge at T intersection, then take 1st. right to Taylorville Rd carry on to Gun club, it’s posted and at the same site as go-kart and jet sprint courses.

Western Southland hosted the South Island South Zone last weekend which was excellent indeed, as it see’s southern clubs getting right back into Sporting. Four members of the South Island Sporting Clay Shooters Club took two trailer loads of new Pro Matic traps down from Timaru and Alexandra to help the locals. Again huge thanks to Graeme Brown and also to Neil Winsloe for their total support in this venture. Good weather, no way, we set up in snow flurries and driving rain and wind; and then to add insults Saturday’s trophy day was held in snow and icy polar blasts. Sunday was a different story though cool and overcast the worst of the weather had gone and shooting conditions were pretty good overall.
Several members from the new Te Anau Clay Target Club attended to get some ideas for their own shoots and they are really getting into Sporting shooting and like the S.I.S.C.S.C have no ground, but are looking at being a ’mobile’ club. There is no shortage of superb sporting ground in Southland not to forget the enthusiasm of the guys to make this succeed.
We set three old style fields and the club set one, and in my opinion there’s was the hardest with great tricky midi’s, mini’s and the rarely seen ‘bee’ set inside a midi, and in a simo pair!! The targets we tough over the two days but not ridiculous except one incomer that ended up being something that you would see at a shooting demonstration by the worlds best. Our fault, we didn’t pin it down and with wet logs on the pallet it just slipped further from our grasp. It caused some ‘discussions’ but was accepted by shooters as one of those things, and did not dampen a weekend of great, challenging targets and good Southern hospitality.

November 2nd, 2011 - Comments(5) Sporting/Compak grades

Greetings, Council have agreed that all NZCTA shoots that come under the Sporting discipline will now have AA Grade included.
That is all NZCTA Sporting & Compak championships. So that means Nationals, Islands, Zone and Open shoots commencing after 1st January 2012.
This is something the Sporting Commitee has been wanting for some time, and with the large amount of AA grade shooters at all events now, we think it will help to make a level playing field for all shooters. This along with the new grading starting up on January 1, we think will go along way to giving shooters some of the things they have been asking for.
CHEERS!!

Last weekend North Canterbury CTC held the South Island Compak Championships. Two days of great Compak targets all in perfect weather. A big thanks to David Reid, Mike Blackwell and their merry band of very willing helpers. Huge thanks must go to the sponsors who just give the shoot that someting extra, it also is something that clubs really appreciate especially in these tough economic days. So thanks to Stager Sports, Citizen Watches and Target Products for their extremely generous sponsorship, and I hope shooters just remember them down the track with their purchases!!. Saturday was Club Champs and trophy day, so the targets were set accordingly, and I think everyone thoroughly enjoyed the day with Derek Morgan on a flying ‘poaching’ visit taking the day with 90/100. It was good to see some Northerners come down to compete. I’m thinking they were escaping all the hype and carry on from the Rugby World Cup up North, but a great effort from Derek Morgan, Dale Clark, Ian Holmes and Alex Squires to come South for the weekend. Sunday was a completely different story, being one of two selection shoots for the Trans Tasman Trophy, the targets had to up to that standard. And they were, springs wound up, targets crossing on the boundary pegs, sneaky angles and a couple of just nasty targets were put out for the shooters delight, or not!! Read more »

Federations of Fitasc
Paris, September 26th 2011
Subject : Shooters’dress at Championships Fitasc

Dear Mr Presidents,
The opening and closing ceremonies of international competitions are essential moments for
the promotion of our sport.
The opening ceremonies are more and more organized in town centers and the parade of
National teams is a highlight and an opportunity to show a positive image of our sport, of
shooters and of the National organizations.
Similarly, the closing ceremony with prize award gives rise to many pictures, then released in
the specialist press, or issued on internet sites.
During the opening and closing ceremonies, many federations arrange for their National
teams to parade impeccably dressed. On the other hand, some other federations do not make
any effort so that the style of dress of their National teams is representative of their country,
of our sport and the prestige of the championship. Besides, the dress of awarded shooters
during the prize awards, must comply with the rules (see below for reminder):
At the opening ceremony, during the parade of National teams, their members have to be
in the attire of their National team, or wearing a pair of pressed trousers & blazer.
At the closing ceremony, all the awarded shooters shall attend the prize giving, either in
the attire of their National team, or wearing a pair of pressed trousers & blazer.
We would like to inform you that as from January 2012 the following steps will be taken
should any shooter or delegation does not adhere to the ruling that was approved by the
General Assembly of FITASC:
- If a National team or delegation about to parade in an opening ceremony is dressed in
an inappropriate manner, only the flag of that delegation will be allowed to parade.
- If any award winning competitor will be dressed in an inappropriate manner during a
closing ceremony, he or she will not be allowed on the podium.
Best regards.
Jean-François PALINKAS
President FITASC.
